Warm Eclectic 1-Bedroom Apartment in Rosemead
A compact, empty one-bedroom in Rosemead became a warm, colorful home for two. One bold rug sets the tone, and everything else stays easy.
The brief
This is a compact one-bedroom, one-bath apartment on a single level in Rosemead. It sleeps two, and the brief names solo travelers and couples as the guests it is for. The unit was empty when the owner brought it to The Cozy Palette, and the job was to furnish it in full.
The owner wanted a warm, cozy, eclectic feel in a small footprint. The space had to work for living, eating and sleeping. The unit has on-site parking.
Before & after
The concept
In a small unit, one bold piece goes a long way. Here it is the rug, a multicolor pattern in reds, golds and teals. Everything around it stays calm: white walls, light gray wood-look floors and a soft gray sofa. Two colorful canvases above the sofa pick up the same tones.
We kept the materials warm and natural. Rattan cabinet fronts, a woven bag on the hooks by the door, a dark wood dining table and gold legs on the coffee table. In the bedroom the color steps back to soft stripes and warm abstract prints.
Room by room
Living room
A gray sofa with striped and textured pillows sits on the colorful rug, with a white-and-gold coffee table facing a wall-mounted TV. Wall hooks, a full-length mirror, a rattan cabinet and a shoe rack by the door give guests a landing spot.
Kitchen
The galley kitchen has white shaker cabinets, white counters and a marble-look backsplash. A gas range, a stainless fridge, a double sink and a microwave cover simple meals, and a row of bright mugs adds color inside the cabinets.
Dining area
A round dark wood table with white metal chairs sits by the windows. It works for coffee, takeout or a laptop.
Primary bedroom
A dark velvet bed with a chevron-stitched headboard and striped pillows sits under three warm abstract prints. A green side table and a tall plant add a little life to the room.
Bathroom
The bath has a tub and shower with marble-look tile and a sliding glass door, plus a white shaker vanity and a white-framed mirror. A gold-framed print and a few brass accents add warmth.
