The brief
This is a two-bedroom home in Rosemead with an open great room: kitchen, island, dining area and living room in one space with light grey plank floors and lots of windows. Each bedroom has a queen-size or larger bed, so the home sleeps four. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole home for short stays.
The concept
The home already had white shaker cabinets, crown molding and charcoal accent walls. We wanted one strong, happy colour to carry the open room, so the mustard sectional became the anchor, with grey and charcoal around it to keep it grounded. Black metal, glass and dark wood repeat from the living room to the dining table so the great room reads as one space. Furniture was chosen for function, easy cleaning and durability, with performance fabrics and simple, solid frames. The bedrooms are calmer, with cream headboards, white bedding and soft blue and grey layers.
Room by room
Living room
A mustard velvet sectional with a chaise faces the room, with cream and charcoal patterned pillows. A black-frame glass coffee table sits on a grey distressed rug. A large geometric tapestry hangs on the charcoal accent wall, with a faux fig tree in the corner.
Kitchen
White shaker cabinets with black bar pulls run up to the crown molding, over a white subway backsplash. A stainless range, hood and fridge line the wall. A white marble-look island holds a brass tray with a succulent, and the mustard sofa peeks in from the living room.
Dining area
A round black wood table is set for four with grey upholstered chairs, woven chargers, navy napkins and stemware. A palm-tree print and a blue and sand diptych hang on the walls, with a faux tree in the corner.
Great room
From the kitchen end, the whole room opens up: a grey island with black stools, the round dining table and the yellow sofa at the far end, all under recessed lights.
Bedroom 1
A cream channel-tufted headboard sits against a charcoal accent wall, with white bedding, grey patterned pillows and a blue faux-fur throw. Grey nightstands hold brass lamps, a blue velvet slipper chair sits in the corner, and a pair of blue abstracts hang above the bed.
Bedroom 2
