The brief
This is a single-story home in Rosemead with a living room built around a fireplace, a dining room that opens to the kitchen and a sliding door to the backyard, three bedrooms and a full bath. Two bedrooms each have one bed and the third has two, and the backyard has a dining patio. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole home for short stays.
The concept
The house came with white walls, grey wood-look floors and white shaker cabinets, so we kept the base quiet and let texture do the work. Charcoal carries the big pieces, a deep sectional and a tufted headboard, while warm walnut, mustard and teal show up in smaller doses so each room has its own note. A grey scallop-pattern wallpaper ties the fireplace wall to the twin bedroom. The furniture was chosen to hold up to guests: a sectional with room for a group, a dark wood table with sturdy X-back chairs, and white bedding with knit throws that wash easily between stays.
Room by room
Living room
A wood-look media console sits beside the fireplace, which has a white mantel and a grey scallop-tile surround with a carved wood heart on the shelf. A black writing desk stands near the entry, and the doorway opens straight through to the dining room and a sliding door beyond.
Kitchen
White shaker cabinets wrap the kitchen under a tray ceiling, with dark grey counters and a white beveled subway tile backsplash. A stainless gas range, hood and dishwasher sit in the run, a copper tiered fruit basket and a coffee basket sit on the counter, and a black and white runner lies on the wood-look tile floor.
Dining room
A dark wood table with six X-back chairs is set with blue bowls and a small potted plant. A long abstract canvas in grey and gold hangs on the grey wall, a potted palm fills the corner, and grey drapes frame the sliding door to the yard.
Walnut nightstand bedroom
A grey nailhead headboard is flanked by walnut mid-century nightstands with grey lamps. White bedding is finished with a grey throw, blue and chevron pillows and folded towels, under a colorful abstract print.
Charcoal tufted bedroom

Twin bedroom
