Soft Modern 2-Bedroom Apartment in Whittier
A two-bedroom apartment in Whittier with a roomy living room, a white kitchen and a sunny dining nook, furnished in soft blue-grey with mustard and rust accents.
The brief
This is a two-bedroom apartment in Whittier, in a building set around a leafy courtyard. It has a long living room, a white galley kitchen with a dining nook by a big window, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Each bedroom has one large bed. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole apartment for short stays.
The concept
The apartment came with white walls and dark plank floors, a clean base that could easily feel cold. We warmed it up with soft blue-grey velvet, mustard and rust pillows, and a few pieces of art in peach, terracotta and blue. The furniture is simple and sturdy, chosen for function, easy cleaning and durability: a velvet sectional, a stone-look coffee table and metal bistro chairs that wipe clean. Each bedroom has its own color, beige and rust in one and navy and mustard in the other.
Room by room
Living room
A blue-grey velvet sectional with a sheepskin and mustard pillows faces a black ribbed TV console on splayed legs. Beige drapes frame a wide window, and a round white coffee table on a gold base sits on a soft grey rug. By the door, a small black rack with a woven basket and a row of hooks keep shoes and hats in one place.
Dining nook
A round walnut table is set for four with white bowls, orange plates, woven chargers and wine glasses. White metal bistro chairs sit around it, and sheer white drapes hang at a large window looking out into the trees.
Kitchen
White shaker cabinets with long steel pulls line both sides of the galley, with speckled granite counters, a gas range and a stainless French-door fridge. A toaster, microwave, knife block and coffee maker sit ready on the counter, with a small planter of grass on the window sill.
Primary bedroom
A beige tufted bed with a scalloped headboard is made up in white with a grey faux-fur throw and striped and dotted pillows. Round black side tables hold small wood tripod lamps, and three geometric prints in rust, peach and pink hang above the bed. Beige drapes over sheers frame the window, and a faded blue runner sits at the foot of the bed.
Navy bedroom
A navy velvet bed with a tall tufted headboard is dressed in white with a grey faux-fur throw and mustard and rust pillows. A white side table holds a lamp and an alarm clock, a blue abstract canvas hangs above, and a blue velvet cube in the corner holds a potted monstera.
Bathroom
A white vanity sits under a framed mirror and a three-light fixture, with a band of grey stone mosaic running around the room. A white shower curtain, white towels and a plant on the tank keep it simple and fresh.
