An apartment in Alhambra with two bedrooms, an open living and dining space and a walk-in shower, furnished from scratch in walnut, soft grey and coral.

The brief

This is an apartment in a small two-story building in Alhambra. Inside there is a living room that runs into a kitchen and dining area, two bedrooms with one bed each, and a bath with a walk-in shower. The primary bedroom has its own walk-in closet and a small bath off it. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole apartment for short stays.

The concept

This is one of Tammy's signature homes, a custom design where every room was planned from scratch. The apartment came with light grey walls, pale plank floors and grey shaker cabinets, so the plan was to warm it up without making it busy. Walnut furniture with tapered legs brings in the mid-century feel, and coral, olive and black-and-cream patterns carry the colour from room to room. The furniture was chosen to work hard: a sturdy fabric sofa, molded dining chairs that wipe clean, and white bedding that is simple to launder and turn over between guests. Small touches like the coat rack, the bench by the door and the art on every wall make it feel lived in rather than staged.

Room by room

Living roomA charcoal grey sofa holds black-and-cream patterned pillows and a rust pillow, with an olive slipper chair beside it. A walnut coffee table with a cream drawer sits on a blue-grey rug, topped with two small ferns. Across the room, a walnut and white slatted media console holds a few books under the TV. By the door, a black branch coat rack holds a grey felt hat next to a framed bicycle print, with a bamboo bench and a fringed pillow below.
Kitchen and diningGrey shaker cabinets and white counters line one wall, with a stainless fridge at the end. A round dark wood table is set for four on woven placemats, with white bowls and smoked glasses. Four grey molded chairs on light wood legs surround it. A fiddle-leaf fig stands in a woven basket in the corner, and a large abstract canvas in soft blue and peach fills the side wall.
Queen bedroomA navy upholstered bed is made up in white bedding with a coral tasseled lumbar pillow and grey leaf-pattern pillows. A cream knit throw and a white sheepskin lie across the foot. Walnut and white nightstands hold ceramic lamps on both sides, under a long window with white blinds. A framed line drawing of hills and a sun hangs on the side wall.
Primary bedroomA pale blue channel-tufted headboard anchors the room, with green and white ikat pillows and black-and-cream knit pillows on white bedding. A brass pharmacy lamp sits on a walnut nightstand, and a macrame hanging fills the wall above. An olive slipper chair with a patterned pillow sits in the corner, and a faded multicolour runner lies beside the bed.
Primary suiteFrom the bed, the room opens to a walk-in closet stocked with towels and black hangers, and to a small bath with a grey vanity. Three black-framed prints of a feather, a palm leaf and a line drawing hang between the doors.
BathThe shower is lined in large white marble-look tile, with a handheld chrome shower. A grey shaker vanity with a speckled top sits under a silver-framed mirror. A bright toucan print and a small potted plant add colour, with a round grey mat on the tile floor.
Queen bedroom closet wallA dried palm-leaf fan hangs between the window and the mirrored closet, which slides open to stacked towels and a basket on the shelf. The coral pillow and sheepskin carry the colour through from the bed.
