Soft Contemporary 2-Bedroom Apartment in Alhambra
A two-bedroom unit in Alhambra, furnished for couples and small families. White walls and warm wood floors, with blue velvet for color.
The brief
This two-bedroom, one-bath apartment in Alhambra is one unit in a multi-unit property. It sleeps four, and the brief names couples and small families visiting Alhambra and the San Gabriel Valley as the guests it is for. The Cozy Palette furnished and styled the unit for short-term rental.
The owner wanted a bright, clean contemporary look with warm wood tones, white walls and navy-blue accents, set up for both short and mid-length stays.
Before & after
The concept
The unit already had warm wood-look floors and white walls, so we kept the base simple and put the color into a few strong pieces. Royal blue velvet cubes in the living room and a navy tufted bed in the second bedroom carry the blue through the home.
Soft grey velvet, terracotta and blush art and green plants warm everything up. In the kitchen, the sage green cabinets with black pulls pick up the green of the plants and the striped tea towels.
Room by room
Living room
A charcoal sectional with a chaise faces a round white coffee table on a brass X base, set on a pale rug. Two royal blue tufted velvet cubes, a grey velvet accent chair with a cream embroidered pillow, a monstera and a desert-tone abstract canvas sit around a wall-mounted TV.
Kitchen
Sage green shaker cabinets with black bar pulls run along cream counters and a double sink under the window. A black gas range with striped tea towels sits under a stainless chimney hood, next to a stainless dishwasher.
Dining area
A walnut and black metal table for two with matching chairs sits under a terracotta and blush arch print. A black floor lamp with a linen shade, a small globe, stacked books, a small potted plant and a fiddle-leaf fig fill the corner.
Primary bedroom
Under a sloped ceiling with a beam, a grey crushed velvet bed is dressed in white bedding, a grey throw and black and cream striped pillows. Three terracotta and navy abstract prints in oak frames hang above, with a white round side table, a tripod lamp and a tall ficus.
Bedroom 2
A navy velvet tufted bed with beige tufted and woven pillows sits between rustic wood and black metal nightstands with white lamps. Two blue and blush abstract prints, a chunky knit pouf and two windows with white blinds keep the room light.
Bathroom
A white pedestal sink with a chrome faucet sits beside a tub with beige stone-look tile, a handheld shower and a white shower curtain. Amber pump dispensers on the tile wall and a round terracotta bath mat add warmth.
