A five-bedroom Spanish Revival home in Pomona, styled for large families and groups. We let the beamed ceilings, whitewashed adobe and terracotta floors lead.
The brief
The Cozy Palette worked on this five-bedroom home in Pomona, planned for large families or groups. The before photos show the rooms mid-work, with furniture and fixtures wrapped in plastic.
The owner wanted the whole home laid out for big group stays, with plenty of bedrooms and a large outdoor space.
Before & after
The concept
This house has so much character already: log beams, dark plank ceilings, whitewashed brick walls, adobe block outside, terracotta tile and heavy plank doors with iron hinges. Our job was to work with it, not cover it up.
We kept the palette warm and simple, with linen curtains on wood rods, white bedding, grey throws and a few pops of mustard and pattern, so the old architecture stays the star.
Room by room
Living room
Red-and-gold damask sofas face a carved dark-wood coffee table on the terracotta tile floor, with a brown leather rocking chair by the white corner fireplace. Linen curtains frame the French doors, and a light wood media console and a ceiling fan sit under the log-beam ceiling.
Primary bedroom
A grey upholstered bed on a light oak frame is dressed in white bedding, a grey throw and striped and textured pillows, with rattan-front nightstands and small lamps. A wagon-wheel chandelier hangs from the white beamed ceiling, and a framed landscape painting hangs on the whitewashed brick wall.
Shared bedroom
Two black iron double beds with white bedding, grey throws and mustard and patterned pillows share a large room under a white vaulted beamed ceiling. A wagon-wheel chandelier, linen curtains on wood rods and a tall wood armoire complete it.
Bathroom
The vintage butter-yellow tile with red trim stays, alongside a knotty-wood vanity, a deep white tub and a glass-door shower with a painted panel. A white towel and a few small toiletries keep it simple.
Covered patio
The covered porch has a flagstone floor, adobe-block walls, red-painted frames and a heavy plank front door with iron strap hinges.
Kitchen
The original knotty-wood cabinets with scalloped trim sit against buttery yellow tile with a red pinstripe. The kitchen is set up with a stainless gas range and dishwasher, a coffee maker, kettle and toaster, and dishes on the open shelves.
Dining
A long wood table with carved ladder-back chairs is set for a group under a dark beamed ceiling, beside an antique armoire. Further along the gallery, a second table with cane-back chairs and a wrought-iron pendant give the space another place to sit.
Backyard
A courtyard between adobe wings with clay tile roofs holds a red market umbrella over yellow chairs and a table. A timber pergola, tall cactus and a mature shade tree frame the space.
