Modern Transitional 3-Bedroom Townhome in Baldwin Park
An empty unit in Baldwin Park became an easy, open home for families and small groups. Gray and wood keep it calm, and navy and gold bring the warmth.
The brief
This is one unit of a multi-unit property in Baldwin Park. The brief names families and small groups as the guests it is for, and asks for open living and dining space where everyone can spend time together.
The owner asked The Cozy Palette for a full furnish in a contemporary gray-and-wood palette with navy blue and gold accents, matching the companion unit on the same property.
Before & after
The concept
The unit came to us empty, with white shaker cabinets, pale blue-gray walls and light oak floors. We kept that clean base and built warmth on top of it. A gray velvet sectional and an oval white coffee table on a gold base set the tone, and mustard pillows and a bright patterned rug give the open room its color.
In the bedrooms we used darker accent walls behind the beds, so each room feels a little cozier than the bright main space. Navy velvet in one room and terracotta prints in the other keep them from feeling the same.
Room by room
Living room
A gray velvet L-sectional with mustard and woven striped pillows faces an oval white coffee table on a gold X base, over a multicolor patterned rug. A potted tree in a woven basket stands by the front door, and white wood blinds cover the window.
Dining area
A walnut-toned table with white metal bistro chairs sits between the living room and kitchen. It is set with white bowls on orange plates, gray place mats and wine glasses, with pastel landscape canvases on the nearby wall.
Kitchen
White shaker cabinets with matte black bar pulls, a white subway-tile backsplash and gray counters frame a stainless gas range and white fridge. A side counter holds a row of books, a microwave and a small plant, and a stacked washer and dryer sits in the hall beyond.
Bedroom with navy headboard
A navy velvet tufted bed is made up in white with a gray throw, black-and-white and blush patterned pillows and folded towels. It sits against a charcoal accent wall under an abstract canvas, with white side tables, small lamps and a fiddle-leaf fig by the window.
Bedroom with gray headboard
A gray upholstered bed sits against a charcoal accent wall under three terracotta geometric prints, with striped and woven pillows. Black tray nightstands, a small vintage-style runner, a tall mirror and a potted fig finish the room.
Bathroom
The shower has a frameless sliding glass door, large greige wall tile and a hexagon mosaic floor. A matte black towel rack hangs above the toilet, next to a frosted window.
