One of Tammy's signature homes: a mid-century house in San Gabriel planned room by room. Navy, mustard and warm oak run from the living room to a glass-walled dining room and a covered patio.

The brief

This is a three-bedroom home in San Gabriel, and its rooms were empty when The Cozy Palette started. The project files cover the living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, entry, patio and yard, along with a planting plan for the full yard.

The concept

This is one of Tammy's signature homes: a custom design where every room was planned from scratch. The house already had good mid-century lines, a brick fireplace and a long glass-walled room off the back. We wanted to play those up rather than hide them. The fireplace went deep navy, and navy, mustard and warm oak carry through the rest of the house.

Every room has its own moment, from the bold star wallpaper in the dining room to the palm-frond wall in the primary bedroom and the fluted wood-look tile in the bath. The pieces stay simple and low so the patterns and the light can do the work.

Room by room

Living roomA navy tufted sectional with ochre-striped and mustard pillows wraps around an oval white coffee table on a black hairpin base, over a faded blue, rust and peach rug. Two taupe tufted slipper chairs, a brass chandelier with opal globes, framed mountain and crane prints and the navy-painted brick fireplace complete the room.
KitchenWhite shaker cabinets with matte black hardware and white quartz counters sit against a blue-and-grey patterned tile backsplash. The peninsula looks straight through to the dining room and its wicker pendant.
Sunroom diningThe former enclosed patio is now a glass-walled dining room with a long whitewashed-oak table, chrome cantilever chairs with cane backs and olive-green velvet seats, and two woven wicker dome pendants. A charcoal-and-white star wallpaper wall frames a wood shuffleboard table, and a banana-leaf canvas hangs on the white shiplap wall.
BathroomA warm wood double vanity with white basins sits under a wide backlit mirror. A frosted window and a framed monstera print keep it bright and simple.

Primary bedroomA charcoal velvet king bed with nailhead trim stands against a grey palm-frond wallpaper wall, flanked by navy mid-century nightstands with white ribbed lamps. A mustard swivel chair, a multicolor watercolor rug, a brass caged ceiling light and a white barn door to the en-suite finish the room.
BedroomA linen upholstered headboard in a black frame sits under a run of white plantation shutters, dressed with blue woven lumbars and cream pillows with knotted dots. Coral and sage geometric prints in gold frames and a walnut nightstand with a brass lamp complete the room.

Primary bathA floating oak double vanity with two rounded backlit mirrors sits beside a walk-in shower behind a frameless sliding glass door. The shower has a warm fluted wood-look tile wall, a recessed niche with amber pump bottles and a teak stool.
PatioA stained wood pergola with string lights and a ceiling fan covers dark wicker seating with coral-red cushions around a glass-top wicker coffee table. A tan geometric outdoor rug and a wall-mounted TV on the deep charcoal-blue wall make it an outdoor living room.
