Industrial Modern 1-Bedroom Home in Rosemead

A one-bedroom home in Rosemead built around one open room: cook, eat and relax in the same space, then step out to a quiet patio.
The brief
This is a one-bedroom home in Rosemead with an open-plan kitchen and living room, a bedroom with a sliding door to a side patio, a bathroom and a small work corner by the entry. The photos show one bed, a king-size, plus a sectional in the living room. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole home.
The concept
The open room was the starting point. Grey shaker cabinets, white counters and pale plank floors set a clean base, and we leaned into it with black metal, brown leather and brass-and-black dome pendants for a light industrial feel. The long island is the center of the home, with four leather stools so guests can eat and talk while someone cooks.
We chose pieces that hold up to steady use. The black leather sectional and leather stools wipe clean, and the metal frames are sturdy. Warmth comes from the soft things: orange chevron and chartreuse pillows in the living area, mustard pillows and a teal bench in the bedroom, and southwest-pattern art in the bath.
Room by room
Living room
A black leather sectional with orange chevron and chartreuse pillows sits around a round black bentwood coffee table topped with a carved wood knot. Beyond it, the island with brown leather barstools sits under three brass-and-black dome pendants, and a pegboard organizer hangs on the far wall.
Kitchen
A long run of grey shaker cabinets with white quartz counters holds a gas cooktop, dishwasher and stainless chimney hood. A black floating shelf and rail hold dishes and hanging tools, and the long grey island is set with plates for four.
Bedroom
A grey nailhead upholstered bed with white bedding, mustard and striped pillows and a grey throw sits between white swing-arm sconces. A teal bench on brass hairpin legs sits at the foot, a walnut nightstand holds a clock, and linen drapes frame a sliding door to the yard. The walls are a pale blue.
Bathroom
A grey shaker vanity with a white quartz top sits under a glass-shade bar light, with amber pump bottles by the sink. A southwest-pattern wood panel hangs on the wall, and a glass door closes the shower.
Work nook
By the entry, a wood-top desk with a chair, a globe and a desk lamp sits beside a sage drawer unit. A white pegboard keeps small things off the desk, and a bamboo shoe rack sits by the door.
Patio
Off the bedroom's sliding door, a concrete patio holds black metal chairs and a small table with orange and grey cushions, a faux-fur throw and a woven lantern, next to a citrus shrub and a wood fence.
