Gallery Modern 3-Bedroom Home in Pasadena
A multi-level hillside home furnished like a bright gallery, with bold art, graphic rugs and colourful pieces against white walls and grey tile.
The brief
This is a multi-level home in Pasadena, set on a wooded hillside with views to the hills. It has white walls, large grey tile floors, tall windows and several living spaces across its levels. We can see three furnished bedrooms. Outside there is a curving pool and a round spa. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole home for short stays.
The concept
The house is all clean white walls and tall windows, so it worked like a gallery. We let the art and rugs carry the colour: a red and charcoal patterned rug in the living room, black and white stripes in the lounge, and colour-block canvases and wall sculpture throughout. The furniture stays simple and graphic, black leather, white lacquer and glass, so the art can stand out. Furniture was chosen for function, easy cleaning and durability: leather, metal and wipeable white surfaces. The primary suite gets the softest treatment, with warm yellow and blush seating and gauzy drapes.
Room by room
Living room
A black leather sectional with pink, plaid and teal pillows sits on a large red and charcoal patterned rug. Bold abstract art hangs on the walls, with a black leather swivel chair, a white lacquer desk with a pink chair and large grey tile underfoot.
Dining room
A black table with six black leather chairs is set for dinner under a white petal pendant. An oversized wire wall clock hangs on the white wall, and tall corner windows look out to the hills.
Kitchen
White high-gloss flat-panel cabinets wrap the room with grey counters. A built-in stainless fridge, double wall ovens and a gas cooktop sit under a flush ceiling hood.
Breakfast nook
A black and white geometric wallpaper wall frames a wall TV. A round glass bar table with black leather stools sits beside the window, and the kitchen peninsula has two black counter stools.
Lounge
A double-height room is laid out with a black and white striped rug, a grey loveseat and a charcoal ottoman beside a glass side table. A large colour-block canvas and an orange wall sculpture add bright colour, with an op-art cabinet by the stairs.
Bedroom 1
A black metal bed is made up in white with black geometric pillows and a grey blanket, over a grey shag rug. A clear acrylic nightstand with a red drawer sits beside it, with charcoal drapes at the sliding door and an ensuite beyond.
Bedroom 2
A grey upholstered bed with white linens and a mauve throw has a tufted bench at its foot. Charcoal drapes frame the window to the trees, beside a rocket print.
Primary suite
The large primary suite has its own sitting area: yellow and blush sofas around a stepped white coffee table on a painterly rug, under an arc floor lamp. The bed is dressed in white with orange pillows, with patterned slipper chairs, a white dresser with orchids and gauzy drapes.
Pool
A curving pool and a round spa sit below the blue-grey stucco house, with white loungers, a patio umbrella and trees all around.
