Coastal Modern 2-Bedroom Apartment in Alhambra
A bright two-bedroom apartment furnished from scratch in soft blue, sunny mustard and warm walnut, with a coastal print wall tying the rooms together.
The brief
This is a two-bedroom apartment in Alhambra, in a two-storey stucco building with a small private balcony. The living room, dining area and kitchen share one open space with grey plank floors and a sliding door at the far end. Each bedroom has a queen-size or larger bed, so the apartment sleeps four. The Cozy Palette furnished the whole unit for short stays.
The concept
The apartment came with white walls, cream cabinets and cool grey floors, so it needed warmth without losing that clean, bright feel. We kept a calm base of light blue-grey and white, then brought in mustard pillows, walnut wood and a run of palm and coastal prints to give it a relaxed Southern California mood. Furniture was chosen for function, easy cleaning and durability: a roomy sectional, a sturdy round table with metal chairs, and simple upholstered beds. The bedrooms stay soft and quiet, with layered whites, sheepskin and a few patterned pillows.
Room by room
Living room
A light blue-grey tufted sectional wraps the corner, dressed with mustard knit pillows and woven accents. An oval walnut coffee table holds a trailing pothos. Three framed palm and coastal prints hang in a row above, with a black tripod floor lamp in the corner and a tan abstract on the side wall.
Dining area
A round walnut table with four white metal bistro chairs sits between the kitchen and the living room. It is set with green woven placemats, white bowls and wine glasses. A low white TV console sits under the window on the far wall.
Kitchen
Cream raised-panel cabinets run along one wall with white speckled counters. A stainless gas range, over-range microwave and dishwasher sit in line, with a red toaster and a knife block by the stove.
Bedroom 1
A grey upholstered bed is made up in white, with black and white patterned pillows, a white sheepskin and a tan knit throw. White mid-century nightstands hold blue ceramic lamps. A grey velvet slipper chair sits by the window, under a black and white palm-leaf print, with a blue abstract above the bed.
Bedroom 2
A light blue channel-tufted headboard anchors the second bedroom, with tan and green pillows and a white sheepskin on white bedding. Two linen benches sit at the foot of the bed. A fiddle-leaf tree and a honeycomb print fill the corner beside the sliding closet.
Bathroom
A walk-in shower in white marble-look tile has a handheld head, a white curtain and a white hex mosaic floor. A small potted plant sits on the tank, beside a soft abstract print.
