The brief
This is a single-floor, two-bedroom, one-bath unit in a multi-unit property in Alhambra. The brief says it sleeps four and names couples and small families visiting Alhambra and the San Gabriel Valley as the guests it is for.
The owner asked The Cozy Palette to fully furnish and style it for short-term rental. The look in the brief is a bright coastal-cottage feel with warm wood tones, white walls and soft sage-green and blue accents.
Before & after
The concept
The unit already had white walls, warm wood-look floors and blue kitchen cabinets, so we let those lead. In the living room, an olive-green corduroy sectional brings in the green, and a navy pillow, yellow and blush prints and a marble-top coffee table on a gold frame keep it fresh and light.
The rooms are small, so we kept every piece simple and left room to move around. Crisp white bedding, gray knit throws and a few green plants tie the bedrooms back to the living room.
Room by room
Kitchen
Periwinkle-blue shaker cabinets with an arched valance frame the window over a double sink and speckled counters. A stainless French-door fridge and gas range sit alongside, with a wood knife block, a round wooden box and amber soap bottles on the counter.
Dining nook
A small wood-and-black-metal table for four sits by two windows with white blinds. It is set with white bowls on woven place mats around a potted caladium.
Bedroom
A cream channel-tufted bed is made up in white with green-striped and multi-stripe pillows, a gray knit throw and folded towels. A black round side table with a lamp, a faux ficus tree and a soft abstract canvas finish the room, with a wall-mounted TV across from the bed.
Twin bedroom
Two black metal twin beds are dressed in white with gray throws and terracotta striped and tasseled pillows. A small green side table with a tripod lamp sits between them, with yellow, blue and peach abstract prints on the walls and a fiddle-leaf fig in a woven basket.
Bathroom
