A 4-bedroom, 3-bath Azusa home for up to eight guests, designed from scratch around a space theme. Each bedroom has its own colour story, from a Milky Way mural to a terracotta feature wall.

The brief

The Cozy Palette furnished and styled this newly built or renovated home as a short-term rental. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and sleeps up to eight, aimed at families, groups and travellers looking for a stay with a strong sense of character in Azusa and the San Gabriel Valley.

The owner wanted every space done: the open living, dining and kitchen area, the hallway, four themed bedrooms, three bathrooms, a makeup room off the main suite and the outdoor decks.

The concept

This is one of Tammy's signature homes: a custom design where every room was planned from scratch. The thread is the night sky. A gold astronaut holding a moon lamp greets guests by a black slatted fireplace wall, a moon-phase panel hangs in the dining area, and each bedroom takes the theme its own way, with deep-space prints, a Milky Way mural, a terracotta feature wall and a pink neon sign. Light oak floors, a soft grey sectional, cream dining chairs and brushed brass tie it all together so the bold rooms still feel like one home.

Room by room

Living & dining (open plan)A long grey tufted sectional with cream, mustard and burnt-orange pillows faces a round white coffee table on a gold base, with two cobalt velvet poufs on a free-form beige and charcoal rug. A floor-to-ceiling black slatted wall holds the TV and a long electric fireplace, and the open room runs through to the dining table under a brass chandelier.
KitchenCharcoal shaker lower cabinets with brushed-gold pulls sit under white uppers and a white herringbone tile wall. The white quartz island has bold black veining, cream stools and three brass pendants with clear glass shades, next to sliding doors that open to a planted courtyard.
DiningAn oval cream table on ribbed wood-tone pedestals seats eight on cream chairs with black legs, set with slate-grey stoneware and wine glasses on woven placemats. A brass chandelier with clear cone shades hangs above, with a potted bamboo by the kitchen and a moon-phase panel on the olive-brown accent wall.
Bedroom - slatted deep-space suiteA bleached-oak bed with a tall panelled headboard stands against a floor-to-ceiling walnut slat wall hung with two framed deep-space prints. Black-and-brass lamps sit on whitewashed oak nightstands, a blue and rust rug runs under the bed, and a sliding door with taupe drapes leads out to the patio.
Bedroom - Milky Way wallA full-wall Milky Way mural in navy and white stars sits behind a black channel headboard and a pair of tall brass sconces. Light oak nightstands, striped and knotted lumbar pillows, a grey knit throw and a black velvet bench at the foot keep the rest of the room quiet.
Bedroom - terracotta twin roomTwo beds with charcoal channel-tufted headboards stand against a terracotta-orange wall with raised geometric battens. Burnt-orange throws, a houndstooth lumbar pillow, a small white lamp and a woven taupe bench complete the room, with a planet print by the door.
Bedroom - 'stay stellar' roomA chocolate-brown panelled wall carries a pink neon 'stay stellar' sign over a grey boucle wingback bed with tasseled geometric and striped pillows. Black-and-brass nightstands with brass table lamps, a blush swivel chair, rust-red drapes and a framed Venus poster finish the room.
BathroomA dark charcoal shaker double vanity with brushed-gold pulls and faucets sits under twin backlit mirrors. The walk-in shower has wood-look tile laid in a geometric pattern, a black mosaic floor and a glass door on a brass rail.
